6 Ways to Identify an Untrustworthy Addiction Treatment Center

When you decide to seek help for your addiction, you need to find a treatment center in Phoenix that will offer everything you need for your success. Choosing the wrong addiction center can set you back in your recovery, and maybe even thwart it altogether.

You might expect that any center devoted to the treatment of addicts would be anything but trustworthy, but the unfortunate truth is that there are some centers that are designed with only profit in mind. You do need to be careful about the center you choose, so you should do plenty of research before deciding on a place to get treatment.

Here are six red flags that can help you identify when an addiction treatment center may not be trustworthy:

The Center Offers Vague Information

You need to know exactly what you’re getting in a Phoenix addiction treatment center. You need to know the exact location of the center, exactly what services are offered, and exactly what staff is on hand to offer the services. You also need to know exactly what the credentials of the staff providing services are. You should be able to find all that information on the center’s website and in their brochures or other literature.

You should also be able to get this information and more if you talk to a representative on the phone or take a tour of the center. You should also be able to get clear information about pricing. If the center is vague about any of these details, it could be a sign that they are hiding something.

The Center Guarantees Your Results

No one can guarantee that you are overcome your addiction. And no one can ever guarantee that you are going to be “cured” of your addiction – there is no cure. Addiction is a disease that will be with you your whole life. All you can do is focus on sober living. You will always be considered in recovery.

If any center guarantees results or makes other promises about your recovery, you should steer clear. These types of promises show a fundamental misunderstanding of addiction, and any center that makes them will not offer you effective treatment.

The Center is Not Accredited

Though addiction treatment centers are not required to be accredited, having this accreditation shows that they have met higher standards of care than other facilities in the area. Taking the steps to become accredited shows that the center is committed to providing quality care.

The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities are the two agencies that offer accreditation for addiction treatment centers. Look for a seal showing accreditation or ask the center if it is accredited.

The Center Offers to Pay for Travel

Addiction treatment can be costly, so it can be tempting to go to a center that offers to pay for your travel to the center. However, the center is usually not the one paying for your travel. Typically, you are being paid by a marketer or broker who is receiving a commission for recruiting you to the center. Or the center is telling you that your insurance will cover the travel. The reality is that no insurance company pays for travel for treatment.

Avoid any treatment center that promises to pay for your travel or that makes similar claims.

The Center Uses Brokers

Brokers exist to help addiction treatment centers find clients. The brokers get a commission for signing up new clients. The treatment centers get more clients, and the brokers get money. Neither the broker nor the center is concerned with whether the client and the center are a good match. Money is the primary motivation.

You need to find a Phoenix addiction treatment center that can provide the kind of treatment and support you need. Spend time researching centers and the services they provide to find the right match.

The Center Pays to be in Directories

Some directories are helpful in your search for an addiction treatment center in Phoenix. Some are just fronts for brokers that are trying to get clients at any means for the addiction treatment centers they feature.

You should be wary of any addiction treatment centers that are included in directories. Do extra research to verify the reputation of the center in other ways.

The Phoenix addiction treatment center you choose to help you recovery from your addiction is too important to leave to chance. You should do extensive research to find the right center, and you should be wary if you spot any of these red flags. Don’t let your road to recovery be sidetracked because of an untrustworthy center whose only concern is profit.
